How much are missed calls costing your shop?

Answer a few quick questions about your shop. You'll see an estimate of the calls, jobs and money that slip away every month when nobody picks up, plus the phone script that books more of them.

2. How many days a week are you open?

Your best guess. Think busy mornings, lunch, and when everyone's under a car.

Check your phone's recent calls from last night if you're not sure.

From ShopLine's own call data: in September 2026, ShopLine answered 781 calls for auto repair shops, and 28% of them came after the shop had closed. Nights and weekends are where a lot of the leak is.

The 5 moves that book the job

Answer like you want the work

Shop name, your name, and an open question. Never "Hold please" as the first thing they hear.

SAY"Thanks for calling [Shop Name], this is [Name]. What's going on with your car?"

Avoid: "[Shop], hold please." Half of callers won't wait.

Ask about the car before the price

Get the problem, the year, make and model. It shows you know what you're doing, and it's what you need to help them.

SAY"Got it. What year, make and model is it? And when did you first notice it?"

Offer a real next step: now, or a set time

Don't end with "call us back." Give them a choice that ends in a booking.

SAY"We can take a look at that. Would you like to bring it by now, or is tomorrow morning better?"

Get their name and the best number

Every call should end with a way to reach them, even if they don't book.

SAY"So the tech can call you with what he finds, what's your name? Is this the best number to reach you?"

Set expectations and confirm

The line that builds trust: no surprise charges. Then repeat the plan back.

SAY"We'll look it over and call you with a diagnosis and estimate before any work is done. You're all set for [time]."
A real call, start to finish

A real call to V2 Motor Lab in Elmwood Park, NJ, answered by ShopLine's AI receptionist and shared with the shop's and the customer's permission. The customer's name is removed.

Shop"Hey, this is V2 Motor Lab, how may I help you?"Move 1: shop name and an open question.
Customer"I was looking to set up an appointment to drop off my 2014 Subaru Outback."
Shop"We can definitely help with that. What seems to be going on with the Outback?"Move 2: the problem before anything else.
Customer"It makes a lot of loud noise when I get on the highway… the heat shield is extremely loose and it vibrates a lot."
Shop"Got it, that sounds like an exhaust and heat shield issue. We can definitely take care of that for you… Would you like to come by now, or would another time work better?"Move 3: two choices, both end in a booking.
Customer"I can drop it off now."
Shop"Great, bring it on in. Just so I can have the technician give you a call, what's your name?… Is the best number to reach you the one you're calling from?"Move 4: name and number.
Shop"We'll get that Subaru looked at and a technician will give you a call with a diagnosis and estimate before any work is done… You're all set. We'll see you soon."Move 5: no-surprise promise, then confirm.
